The visit was in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

In Van Dien Town, Thanh Tri District, he presented gifts to Le Binh, born in 1927, who had participated in battles at Bach Mai Airport and Luong Yen Water Plant, and in the takeover of Hanoi. For his brave spirit and successful completion of his duties, veteran Le Binh was awarded the First-Class Resistance Medal.

Coming to Vinh Quynh Commune in Thanh Tri District, Vice Chairman Nguyen Trong Dong presented gifts to Nguyen Xuan Thanh, born in 1930, a local guerrilla. In October 1954, he participated in the takeover of the capital. Nguyen Xuan Thanh was awarded the First-Class Resistance Medal for his role in the resistance against the French.

During his visits, Nguyen Trong Dong inquired about the health and living conditions of the veterans, expressing gratitude for their contributions during the resistance against the French colonialists. Their efforts, alongside our military and civilians, helped secure the Dien Bien Phu Victory and later the liberation of Hanoi. The veterans are living witnesses of the events that unfolded 70 years ago.

Dong emphasized that in preparation for the 70th anniversary of the Liberation, Hanoi has carried out a wide range of activities from the city level to the grassroots, focusing on enhancing the living standards and well-being of the people, as well as improving material conditions for those who made contributions to the nation and beneficiary families.

“These meaningful activities demonstrate the city’s profound gratitude to those who are revolutionary veterans, former soldiers, and youth volunteers who played a direct role in the liberation of Hanoi 70 years ago,” Dong stressed.

On this occasion, the vice chairman encouraged them to continue upholding revolutionary virtues and their pioneering spirit. He urged them to remain role models in Party-building efforts, local governance, and in nurturing revolutionary traditions among the younger generation, contributing to a more civilized and modern capital.

Additionally, Dong praised the efforts of local authorities and requested them to continue honoring those who contributed to the country, following the principle of “drinking water, remembering its source.” He emphasized the importance of caring for policy beneficiaries and their families, especially during the celebrations.

Representatives of the families expressed their heartfelt thanks to Hanoi's leadership. They pledged to uphold the traditions of revolutionary soldiers and remain exemplary leaders in local movements. They also vowed to inspire their children and grandchildren to follow the state policies, contributing to the development of their hometown and the capital.
