Hanoi stands second nationwide in implementing e-invoices

Vietnam targets to have 100% of businesses using e-invoices by June 30, 2022.

Hanoi ranked second nationwide in terms of businesses using e-invoices at an estimated 90% of total enterprises, only behind Quang Ninh Province with 98%.

The General Department of Taxation (GDT) revealed the figure after one month of piloting e-invoice in six provinces/cities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Binh Dinh, and Phu Tho, accounting for 60% of the number taxpayers in Vietnam and 70% of the number of invoice issuance per year.

In one month, the number of businesses registering for e-invoices stood over 263,000, or 71% of the total number in six provinces/cities, exceeding the target of over 70% by late 2021.

According to the GDT, after the launch of the pilot use of e-invoices in six provinces/cities from November 2021, the second phase would be expanded to the remaining 57 localities from April 2022.

Statistics from the E-invoice Management Center said it has been offering support for businesses via different communication channels such as hotline, email, web, chatbot, or social media platforms to address concerns related to e-invoices. So far, the center has resolved nearly 9,750 requests from the businesses.

The GDT is in the process of developing a chatbot system using AI to support taxpayers implementing e-invoices.

In preparation for the second phase, the GDT would continue to review shortcomings that emerged during the first phase and make adjustments accordingly to better suit the actual situations in each province/city.

At the launch of the pilot e-invoice program on November 21, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh noted over 99% of businesses and associations in Hanoi were planning to use e-invoices, given its huge benefits in saving time and costs, as well as minimizing contacts during the pandemic.

Anh said this was one of the key steps towards the modernization of tax management that would directly impact the business environment and national competitiveness.

“Hanoi would create the utmost convenience for businesses and taxpayers turning to e-invoicing and address their concern during the process,” he added.

The GDT sets the goal of having 100% of businesses in Vietnam use e-invoices until June 30, 2022.
