Hanoi strives to plant 200,000-250,000 new trees

Trees will be planted at historical and cultural relics, new urban buildings, public works, schools, hospitals, parks and along roads.

Hanoi strives to plant 200,000 - 250,000 new trees in response to the movement initiated by Uncle Ho decades ago in the Year of the Rat 2020, the Government Portal reported.

People's Committees of districts and towns in the city will simultaneously organize the launching ceremony of Lunar New Year tree planting from January 30 to February 5, which coincide with the sixth and the twelfth day of the Year of the Rat.

Trees will be planted at historical and cultural relics, new urban buildings, public works, schools, hospitals, parks and along roads.

The municipal People's Committee assigned the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to introduce suppliers of seedlings and technical materials to ensure the correct variety, quality and techniques on planting and tending.

The Department of Construction in coordination with People's Committees of urban districts and Son Tay town to deploy the plan in accordance with the Hanoi government’s instruction.

The municipal People's Committee required that the New Year tree planting festival must be practical and effective with a view to encouraging all people to actively participate in tree planting and afforestation. Trees must be protected and cared properly.

From 2016 to 2018, Hanoi already planted an additional one million trees, two years ahead of the schedule. The city aims to have 600,000 new trees in 2029-2020.
