Hanoi students bring a warm Mid-Autumn Festival to pediatric patients

Young volunteers from Viet Duc High School joined hands with doctors and donors to bring festive cheer and heartfelt gifts to hospitalized children in Hanoi.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Viet Duc Volunteer Club (VDVC) on October 5 organized the “Dreaming moon” program at the National Lung Hospital, an annual charitable activity held during the Mid-Autumn Festival to bring joy, compassion, and meaningful gifts to children with severe illnesses under treatment.

Under the theme “Compassion and mutual support – The good leaves protect the torn ones,” this year’s program gathered over one hundred volunteers, all students from Viet Duc High School.

Students from Viet Duc High School arrived early to prepare for the event.

In the festive atmosphere of the full-moon celebration, the volunteers organized various activities such as musical performances, folk games, and a traditional moon feast.

They also delivered 60 gift packages directly to young patients and others suffering from serious diseases.

Students folded paper stars by hand to wish good luck for the young patients.

The gifts were filled with sweetness and love.

Children and their parents were delighted with the gifts from the program.

Earlier, on September 14, the club held a fundraising workshop at a café in Hanoi, which attracted many young participants. All proceeds were used to purchase gifts and decorations for the main event.

“A season of sharing under the moonlight”

Le Phuong Anh, Head of the Viet Duc Volunteer Club, shared: “Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for reunion and holds special meaning for children. We wanted to bring them not only mooncakes and lanterns but also laughter and hope.

We are deeply grateful to the leadership of the National Lung Hospital, the Youth Union, Ngoc Ha Ward Police, and our generous donors and sponsors. Thanks to their support, ‘Dreaming moon’ has become a memorable event, allowing the children to feel the warmth of love during this festive season.”

“The kindness of youth”

Tran Thi Tuan Anh, Secretary of the Youth Union of the National Lung Hospital, said as soon as we received the proposal from the Viet Duc Volunteer Club, the hospital’s management agreed to collaborate because this is a profoundly meaningful activity.

"Despite still being students, the volunteers have shown empathy and care for the community. I believe the young patients will feel the love conveyed through every gift,” she told The Hanoi Times.

“Proud to see our children spreading love”

Le Thi Nhung, representing the Parents’ Association and the Club’s Advisory Board, shared emotionally: “As a parent, I feel so happy seeing our children not only perform well at school but also care for those in difficult circumstances. Experiences like this help them mature, learn to love, and cultivate compassion. I sincerely thank the hospital and doctors for supporting this heartfelt event.”

Students were delighted with the successful completion of the program.

“A small joy amid days of treatment”

Thuy, the mother of little Thai Son who is undergoing pneumonia treatment at the National Lung Hospital, said she was delighted when hearing about the Mid-Autumn program for the children. Despite her child’s ongoing treatment, he was able to receive gifts, join games, and enjoy performances, which made the young patients feel cared for and less disadvantaged.

"I truly thank the doctors and Viet Duc volunteers for bringing such warmth to our children,” said Thuy.

Founded in 2013, the Viet Duc Volunteer Club has left its mark with numerous charitable activities such as “Sharing Tet,” “Gathering Sunshine, Sending Love,” and “Warm Tet for All,” spreading the spirit of “Endless compassion – Wholehearted dedication” throughout the community.

Now in its 12th year, the Club continues to uphold the pioneering spirit of youth in humanitarian efforts, connecting hearts, promoting kindness, and inspiring a culture of giving.
