Hanoi to break ground on nine major August projects

Hanoi is showing its determination to improve infrastructure, enhance connectivity and promote sustainable urban growth.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi will break ground on and inaugurate nine major infrastructure and development projects on August 19, marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The projects will be rolled out simultaneously with other investment schemes nationwide via an online launch connecting multiple locations.

Flagship project is the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant in Thanh Liet Ward, with an investment of VND11.2 trillion (US$430 million) and a capacity of 270,000 cubic meters per day, is set to go fully operational after trial runs began in May 2025.

The facility will improve sanitation and restore ecosystems along the To Lich, Nhue, and Lu rivers.

Hanoi will break ground on a new road linking Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh Province to the capital, with the city’s section costing VND42 trillion ($1.6 billion), and the Van Phuc Bridge with a road connection to National Highway 32, with an investment capital of VND3.44 trillion ($130 million).

Land clearance and compensation will also move forward for the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong railway in Dong Anh and the North–South high-speed railway in Ngoc Hoi. The Ngoc Hoi Bridge and approach roads, part of Ring Road 3.5, will receive VND10.2 trillion (US$390 million) to ease congestion and link to Hung Yen City.

In term of urban and tech developments, the Smart City in Vinh Thanh Commune will invest VND94.35 trillion ($3.6 billion) in modern infrastructure, while Viettel’s R&D Center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park costing VND6.9 trillion ($260 million) will focus on high-tech innovations.

A VND7.4 trillion ($280 million) Biotechnology Hi-Tech Park in Thuong Cat Ward has secured land and permits.

City officials say the simultaneous launch underscores Hanoi’s commitment to sustainable growth while serving as a tribute to National Day.
