Hanoi's modern ring road is nearing completion

The road connecting with Thang Long bridge is expected to be completed in September 2020.

Construction of Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long viaduct, which is a section of Hanoi’s Ring Road 3, is nearing completion, according to toquoc.vn.

The construction of the Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long section kicked off in May 2018. After more than two years of construction, over 90% of the workload has been completed. The road connecting with Thang Long bridge is expected to be completed in September 2020.

This road section will complete the beltway, making it a closed circle, contributing to reducing congestion on roads with a large volume of traffic such as Pham Van Dong, Hoang Quoc Viet, Nguyen Hoang Ton, among others.

Besides, elevated Ring Road 3 plays a key role in connecting Hanoi’s downtown with Noi Bai International Airport and northern provinces.

Currently, the contractor is making the best effort to complete the project in late August 2020, then put the viaduct into operation in October 2020.

The following is a bird’s eye view of Hanoi's modern ring road after two years of construction:

The Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long viaduct is 5.367 km long with four lanes, each lane is 3.75 m wide to allow speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
The total length of Mai Dich - Nam Thang Long viaduct including the approach is more than 5km long, the elevated section is nearly 4.6km long.
 Workers are painting the bridge.
The bridge is constructed of permanent steel and reinforced concrete. The bridge design can resist a 7.0 earthquake.
The section of Thang Long bridge is being paved.

The total investment is over VND5,300 billion (US$228.9 million). The project was funded by ODA loans of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and local reciprocal capital.
