Hanoi’s new tunnel project at busy intersection revealed

The tunnel will help reduce traffic congestion at the intersection in rush hours.

Construction of a tunnel connecting Le Van Luong and To Huu streets will kick start soon to ease traffic congestion in one of the busiest intersection in Hanoi.

The tunnel is expected to allow vehicles to pass through the Le Van Luong - Ring Road 3 intersection without interruption from crossing streams on Ring Road 3, Kinhtedothi.vn reported.

It is among the projects on Ring Road No.3 construction financed with Japan’s official development assistance (ODA).

The total length of the tunnel is about 475 meters. Each of its direction will have two lanes.
The total investment is about VND700 billion (over US$30 million), of which the construction will cost some VND530 billion (US$22.8 million).

Regular buses and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will travel above the tunnel.

Trees will be planted on the approach road to the tunnel.
Instead of current eight lanes, after the Le Van Luong tunnel, when completed, will have 10 lanes.
A pedestrian overpass will be built near the underpass.
It is expected that the project will be started to celebrate the 17th Hanoi Party Congress.
