HHTIP strengthens Vietnam–South Korea tech and innovation links

The Korea Vietnam Incubator Park is expected to become a model for international R&D cooperation and help turn research outcomes into production, supporting knowledge based economic development and sustainable growth.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi Hi tech and Industrial Park (HHTIP) will continue to create favorable conditions for research collaboration, technology development, science and technology incubation and Vietnam–South Korea business partnerships to support the growth of an innovation ecosystem in Hanoi and the Capital Region.

President of the HHTIP Management Board, Vu Xuan Hung, delivered this message at the Workshop on Introducing and Cooperating on the Korea Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP) in the Hoa Lac Hi tech Park on November 6. The initiative is jointly developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and the Vietnam Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST).

The event was co organized by KIST, VKIST and the HHTIP Management Board, marking a new step forward in research, development and innovation cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea.

The workshop brought together Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh, President of HHTIP Vu Xuan Hung, VKIST President Vu Duc Loi and representatives from units under the Ministry of Science and Technology. From the South Korean side, attendees included KIST President Oh Sang Rok, Science and Technology Counsellor from the Embassy of South Korea in Vietnam Lee Eun Kyu and more than 60 Vietnamese and South Korean businesses.

In his opening remarks, KIST President Oh Sang Rok said cooperation between the two institutes combines the strengths of both countries and accelerates the process of turning innovative ideas into practical applications. He noted that both sides aim to foster globally competitive breakthroughs for Vietnamese companies, expand market opportunities for South Korean firms and work directly with businesses to identify problems and design solutions at the operational level.

He added that the institutes will continue to help companies identify new growth opportunities, publish scientific results and build connections at the workshop. “These efforts will lay the foundation for joint research projects and wider global cooperation,” Oh said.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh recalled that during General Secretary To Lam’s visit to South Korea in August 2025 both countries agreed to strengthen the capacity and role of VKIST and position it as a strategic center for bilateral science and technology cooperation.

In his address, President of HHTIP Vu Xuan Hung emphasized that the workshop is part of the implementation of the KVIP Innovation Research Project. According to Hung, the project aims to deepen cooperation among KIST, VKIST and the business communities of both countries in research and development, technology transfer, product commercialization and high tech workforce training.

He expressed confidence that KVIP will become a model for international R&D cooperation and help bring research outcomes into production to support knowledge based economic development and sustainable growth. He also reaffirmed HHTIP’s commitment to supporting research cooperation, technology development, the incubation of science and technology enterprises and Vietnam–South Korea business links to help build an innovation ecosystem in Hanoi and the wider region.

A key moment of the workshop was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between VKIST and the High Tech Incubation and Training Center (HITC) under HHTIP. The agreement sets out a framework for practical cooperation in research, training and technology commercialization which will support the growth of science and technology enterprises in Vietnam.

The workshop also featured presentations on Vietnam–South Korea research collaboration, business networking activities and displays of products and technologies.
