Huge shipment of made-in-Vietnam personal protective equipment arrives in New York

This is a “huge” order of medical supplies including protective suits, face masks, and gloves that the US bought from Vietnam recently.

As many as five million personal protective equipment (PPE) made in Vietnam was handed over to the New York government, the huge batch of goods shipped from Vietnam to the US within a record short time.

The last aircraft transporting the final batches of goods landed at JFK airport, according to Huynh Quoc Dinh, director of Vietnam’s Super Cargo Service Company that takes responsibility for the delivery.

He said this is a “huge” order of medical supplies including protective suits, face masks, and gloves that the US bought from Vietnam recently.

To make the shipment possible, Super Cargo Service (SCS) had cooperated with four airlines namely Ethiopia Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Eva Airlines, and Philippines Airlines, Dinh told VnExpress.

New York is one of the hardest hit states by the Covid-19 in the US. It confirmed 357,757 coronavirus cases and 28,437 deaths as of May 20, statistics by Johns Hopkins University showed.

The first 450,000 protective suits made in Vietnam by American-invested DuPont landed in Dallas, Texas on April 8. DuPont said it took 10 days to finish the protective suits and fly them from Hanoi to Dallas – a process that usually takes 90 days and includes transport on a container ship.

Vietnam also is in good shape with supplies of other medical goods, like face shields and shoe covers.

According to VOA, Americans are more familiar with buying “Made in Vietnam” garments and footwear, given the Southeast Asian nation’s large manufacturing base.

The government of Vietnam said on its official website it was supplying the medical suits soon because “the US currently has a great demand” and Vietnam aimed to show its “spirit of mutual support to partner countries, including the US.”

“This is also Vietnam’s participation and contribution to the global effort to push back the Covid-19 pandemic,” the government said.
