Indian Naval ships to Vietnam

From September 23 to 27, two Indian Naval Ships INS SATPURA and INS KADMATT shall be making a port call at Hai Phong City, Vietnam.

This event as part of ongoing celebrations to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Strategic Partnership and the 25th anniversary of India-ASEAN relations.
 INS SATPURA is commanded by Captain Rahul Shankar and INS KADMATT is commanded by Commander Nitin Cariappa.
During the visit, the Indian Navy ships will have professional interaction with the Vietnam People’s Navy towards further enhancing co-operation between the two forces. In addition, calls on senior Government and military authorities, sporting and cultural interactions and sharing of best practices, aimed at strengthening ties and mutual understanding between the two Navies is also planned. 
A Maritime Industry Business Meeting is being organized on the sidelines of the ship visit on 25 Sep 2017 in cooperation with Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hai Phong City. Strong participation from both Vietnamese and Indian maritime and naval industries is expected.  Upon completion of the stay in the harbour, the two Navies shall participate in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) aimed at enhancing interoperability in communication as well as Search and Rescue procedures.
Bilateral relations between India and Vietnam are characterized by strong bonds of friendship based on cultural, religious and economic ties dating back to 2nd Century AD.
The influence of Indian civilization speaks of the deep-rooted historical linkages between the two nations. India-Vietnam relations have been strengthened in recent years due to a vibrant economic relationship and growing convergence on security issues. Last year, during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi to Vietnam, the relations between the two countries were elevated to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.  Strong defense cooperation is a vital component of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. 
In Jun 2016, Indian Defence Minister visited Vietnam which was followed by the visit of Vietnamese Defence Minister to India in Dec 2016.  Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy is scheduled to visit Vietnam in the first week of Oct this year.
The Indian Navy has had extensive interactions with Vietnam People’s Navy, particularly in the field of training, repairs, maintenance, and logistics support aimed at capacity building. The last visit by Indian Navy ship to Vietnam was in May 2016, when two of its ships visited Cam Ranh international port.
The current visit seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy and will further bolster the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and contribute to security and stability in this vital part of the world.
