Information ministry targets 30,000 enterprises to use digital platforms every year

Only 15% of enterprises in Vietnam are embarking on the digital transformation process.

To further accelerate Vietnam’s digital transformation, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) set target of about 50,000 SMEs to access the digital transformation program while at least 30,000 others will experience the digital platforms every year.

These targets are included in the MIC's latest plan to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the process of digitalization.

The ministry also expects to form a network of experts including at least 100 organizations and individuals to support the process in Vietnam.

As part of the plan, the MIC would select proven digital platforms and provide them for SMEs with preferential rates, so that they could use such platforms to optimize their operation for greater efficiency.

“While the process could create new added-value for enterprises, this is a key step to promote national digital economy in each sector, field and locality,” noted the MIC.

Detailed of the information is listed on the websites: http://smedx.vn and http://smedx.mic.gov.vn.

A recent survey conducted by the Vietnam Software and IT Service Association (VINASA) revealed only 15% of enterprises in Vietnam are embarking on the digital transformation process, while only large-scale ones have an IT department.

VINSA attributed such low figure to the fact that SMEs, which account for 97% of total operational enterprises in Vietnam, have not been active in the process, for which one of the main reasons is limited capital.

Meanwhile, a part of the business community considered the digitalization is only for major enterprises due to requirements of high investment cost for IT infrastructure and quality workforce.
