nCoV: Vietnam quarantines all people traveling across China

Vietnam considers quarantine one of the tough measures to prevent the spread of epidemic when the confirmed infected cases hit 10 in the country.

Vietnam has quarantined from February 3 all Chinese visitors and foreigners who traveled across China amid the spread of respiratory sickness caused by a new coronavirus (nCoV) that was detected in Chinese Wuhan city at the end of 2019

Under a request by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, local authorities will make absolute quarantine for 14 days for the above suspects.

For people from China’s Hubei province or coming across this locality, they should be assumed as infected and quarantined at their places to avoid nCoV transmission.

Visitors from other places in China would be quarantined at home or hotel with the supervision of local authorities while their family members are required to make little contact with others.

The government has asked localities across the country to make a list of people who have made contact with the quarantined ones to keep a close eye on the situation.

Vietnamese people returning to the country from China will be quarantined in military barracks or field hospitals.

So far, the army has prepared facilities to accommodate dozens of thousands of quarantined people, providing them with military living standards, Lieutenant General Tran Don, deputy minister of National Defense, said at a government meeting on February 4.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, quarantine is among different measures to help prevent the epidemic.

So far, Vietnam reports 10 infected cases, including two Chinese nationals, and quarantines 78 others. Three out of 10 infected people in Vietnam have recovered, including a 28-year-old Chinese man.
