The Minister of Information and Communications on April 6 said that TikTok has no tools to prevent the spread of fake news and toxic content and the sales of counterfeits (drugs and supplementary products) that may harm the State, society and people, especially children.
The platform has also facilitated negative trends and individuals to draw the attention of the young generations. Whilst, TikTok has violated the rules on the protection of individual identity and information. The ministry will inspect TikTok’s Vietnam-based operations. The mass social network has committed to working with the authorities and updating its community standards by April 21.
Boy saved from being stuck in the 20-storey height
A 10-year-old boy was successfully extracted from being stuck on the 20th floor of an apartment building in Hanoi’s Hai Ba Trung District late April 6. He was spotted by residents, and the case was immediately reported to the local police department. The Fire and Rescue Police Division, under the Hai Ba Trung District Police Department, immediately sent a team to handle the case.
After being saved, the rescue team sent the boy to his family for medical treatment. Accidents in Vietnamese children have occurred more frequently in recent years due to the lack of parental supervision. In January 2023, a 10-year-old fell into a 35-meter concrete pit in Dong Thap Province and was later declared dead after 100 hours of rescue efforts.

Thailand, Vietnam’s biggest rival, fell by three places to the 114th in the world ranking following their three consecutive losses, while Malaysia jumped to the 145th from 138th with two wins. On the global scale, Argentina rose to the 1st of the world ranking, France was up to the 2nd while Brazil dropped to the 3rd. Japan ranked 20th and topped all Asian nations, followed by Iran, South Korea, and Australia.
Presumably-Vietnamese dead bodies to be tested
Vietnamese and Taiwanese authorities will perform DNA tests on some of the reported dead bodies to address whether they are Vietnamese or not, Ministry of Foreign Affairs deputy spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on April 6. As reported, 20 bodies were founded on the western coast of Taiwan in March. Of the victims, nine were Taiwanese, seven were presumed Vietnamese as they carried Vietnamese identifications, and four were unidentifiable.
According to the spokesperson, Vietnamese authorities will work closely with local government agencies in Taiwan to deal with the issues related to the dead bodies. The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei has taken necessary measures to protect the local Vietnamese. Vietnam’s foreign affairs ministry is now working with domestic authorities to educate people about legal migration and avoid similar incidents.
Vietnamese Associations’ union founded in Japan
A union of Vietnamese associations in Japan was founded on April 6 to strengthen the Vietnamese communities in the host country. The union is managed by a nine-member standing board comprising valuable representatives of local Vietnamese societies.
Pham Quang Hieu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs cum Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, highly regards the union as the core driver for Vietnamese people in Japan. The deputy minister hopes the union will facilitate better activities for overseas Vietnamese, preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural traits in the host nation, and further develop Vietnam-Japan relations. Japan is now home to some 500,000 Vietnamese.
