One more Covid-19 infection detected in Hanoi

The new infection case is colleague of the 41-year-old Covid-19 patient who returned from the pandemic-hit province of Hai Duong.

Hanoi recorded another Covid-19 infection case on January 30 afternoon, according to the health ministry.

The patient is a 34-year-old man and works for Z153 factory in Hanoi’s suburban district of Dong Anh.

He is colleague of the 41-year-old Covid-19 patient who returned from the northern province of Hai Duong, Vietnam's current biggest epicenter.

The man is the fourth Covid-19 case in the city and is now under treatment at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases No.2 in Dong Anh district.

Z153 factory with 400 workers has been placed under a lockdown to curb the pandemic spreading. Local authorities found 65 F1 cases. More efforts are being made to trace F2 and F3 cases.

Previously, Hanoi had recorded three cases of Covid-19, including a 20-year-old male student from Hai Duong, temporarily residing in Cau Giay district, a woman living at Times City residential area, who had close contact with patient No.1553 in Quang Ninh province, and a 41-year-old man who returned from the pandemic-hit province of Hai Duong.

Vietnam’s health ministry also confirmed 27 new community transmissions of Covid-19 on January 30 night as the latest outbreak spreads to more localities, raising the infection tally to 207.

The new Covid-19 wave began on January 28 after a gap of 55 days, and has spread to at least seven localities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The latest outbreak comes just a couple of weeks before Tet, Vietnam's biggest and most important festival, an occasion for family reunions that will see millions travel home.

The health ministry on January 30 said it has approved Covid-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca PLC for domestic inoculation. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also instructed the ministry to buy Covid-19 vaccines in the first quarter amid the resurgence of the pandemic.

With the latest confirmations, Vietnam has registered 1,767 Covid-19 cases, including 273 active patients and 35 deaths.
