PM Phuc attended signing ceremony for first PPP agreement with WEF

Among the activities at the 47th Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and WEF President Klaus Schwab on January 18 attended the signing ceremony of a cooperative agreement in form of Public – Private Partnership (PPP) between Vietnam and the WEF on the development of Vietnam’s economy in the future.

Accordingly, the WEF will help Vietnam connect with leading business and professional networks, coordinate with Viet Nam in researches and policy consultancy in such areas as economic restructuring, high technology in agriculture, national competitiveness and climate change adaption.

The Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, led by PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, started joining activities of the 47th World Economic Forum (WEF) Meeting in Davos from January 17-21. The PM held bilateral meetings with Austrian PM Christian Kern, WEF President Klaus Schwab, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Tahehiko Nakao and Microsoft's President Bradford Smith as well as attended dialogues with large corporations and met with press agencies.

At the meeting with the Austrian counterpart, the two sides highly valued the developments in the two nations’ relationship and agreed to launch activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties and soon organize the meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee on economic and trade cooperation.

PM Phuc suggested Austria recognize Vietnam as a market economy, urge the EU to officially approve and sign the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and advocate Viet Nam's bid to run for a non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.  

At the meeting with the WEF President, the PM proposed the WEF continue organizing the WEF Mekong Conference, support Vietnam to connect with top corporations and professionals, consult policies in the national competitiveness and develop high technology. The WEF President praised the role and development potentials of Vietnam, expecting to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in form of PPP.

PM Phuc and ADB President Tahehiko Nakao consented to realize projects in fields of infrastructure, climate change, economic restructuring, poverty reduction in the 2016-2020 period, coordination with nations in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) for the sixth meeting of the Working Group on the GMS in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese leader invited the ADB leaders to attend the APEC High-level Week in November 2017 in the central city of Da Nang. The ADB leader expressed his hope to implement long-term cooperative strategy with Vietnam, committed to granting preferential credits for Vietnam till 2019 and assisting the nation in realizing projects in the framework of the GMS.

At the reception with Microsoft's President Bradford Smith, the PM suggested the corporation pouring more investment in Vietnam, inviting the president to join the APEC High-level Week in November in 2017. For his side, the Microsoft's President expected to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in terms of cyber security, human resource training and software development.

WEF Davos Conference is the largest conference of the WEF, attracted the participation of a large number of high-ranking leaders of foreign countries, international organizations and the world's leading corporations. WEF Davos to attend the conference with more than 3,000 delegates, including more than 40 senior leaders of the countries and international organizations, a large number of ministers and heads of major corporations, professionals, the world's leading authors. This year's conference takes place more than 400 sessions revolving around the theme of "leadership's responsibilities and act" to shape the agenda and policies of governments, international organizations and businesses in the context of the world that are more complicated and unpredictable.
