President Tran Dai Quang received World Bank Country Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione in Hanoi.
At the reception, the President hailed Dione in his new position and wished that the WB Country Director would build on his successor’s achievements to elevate bilateral ties.
President Quang spoke highly of the WB’s support to Vietnam in the recent years, including the building of the Vietnam Report 2035 that suits orientations and goals set by the 12th National Party Congress.
The State leader asked to work closely with the Vietnamese government in establishing the Vietnam – WB Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) framework in the new period.
The President highlighted Vietnam’s main priorities, including strengthening macro-economic stability; economic restructuring in the fields of public investment, banking, State-owned enterprises and fiscal reform; public debt management; infrastructure upgrade; and climate change response.

President Quang also assured that he has instructed agencies concerned to accelerate negotiations, signing and approval of loan agreements with the WB, but project quality must be put first.
Vietnam has continually paid special attention to the effective use of loans provided by the international community and the WB in particular, Quang affirmed, adding that the country always works hard to monitor the process.
For his part, Dione stressed Vietnam’s success is important to the WB as the country is recognised as a success story during the national development.
He vowed that the WB would coordinate closely with Vietnamese agencies to align the CPS framework with Vietnam’s development orientations for 2017-2020.
He also suggested that the WB needs further consultancies in the four pillars, including the development of the private economic sector, human development, environment sustainability and State governance under the Vietnam – WB Country Partnership Strategy framework.
