Prime Minister leaves Hanoi for regional events in China

Vietnam is an active party to these mechanisms, demonstrating its commitment to regional benefit, enhancing cooperation efficiency, and mobilizing external resources for national development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh today [November 5] led a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to attend the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Cooperation Summit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

During the visit, he will attend the 10th Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, the 11th Cambodia – Laos – Myanmar – Vietnam (CLMV) Cooperation Summit, and conduct official engagements in China from November 5 to 8.

These high-level, face-to-face engagements mark the first meetings of the GMS (every 3 years), ACMECS, and CLMV (every 2 years) mechanisms since 2018.

Vietnam strongly emphasizes the Mekong subregional cooperation, viewing GMS GMS and ACMECS as strategically significant frameworks tied to key partners. It also sees the CLMV as a channel to garner international support and attention for Mekong development.

The country is an active participant in these mechanisms, demonstrating its commitment to regional benefit, enhancing cooperation efficiency, and mobilizing external resources for national development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit comes against a backdrop of deepening ties between Vietnam and China, including a Strategic Comprehensive Partnership and a "Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future with Strategic Significance." Recent high-level visits between the two countries underscore these strengthened links.

Economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and China has seen substantial growth, with bilateral trade reaching US$171.9 billion in 2023. China remains Vietnam's largest trading partner and second-largest export market, while Vietnam is China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and fifth globally.

Prime Minister Chinh's visit underscores Vietnam's commitment to advancing GMS, ACMECS, CLMV, and overall Mekong cooperation, driving progress in a new phase of development. It also reinforces Vietnam's dedication to a strong, comprehensive, and sustainable partnership with China.
