Prime Minister of Luxembourg arrives in Hanoi, beginning official visit to Vietnam

Luxembourg is the third largest EU investor and the 17th largest investor globally in Vietnam.

Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel and a high-ranking delegation of Luxembourgish officials landed at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on April 3, beginning their three-day official visit to the nation.

The Luxembourgish delegates came at the invitation of Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh when the latter visited Luxembourg in December 2022.

Luxembourgish Prime Minister Xavier will have a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh on April 4. The two prime ministers will witness the signing of several agreements between ministries and government agencies of the two nations.

The Luxembourgish Government leader will also meet the National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, participate in some events in Ho Chi Minh City, and attend a Vietnam-Luxembourg business forum.

During the visit, Xavier will visit several popular places in Vietnam, such as Ha Long Bay, the monument of Vietnamese heroes and martyrs, the Temple of Literature, and the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.

The Luxembourgish delegation will pay tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at the Presidential Palace Historical Site in Hanoi.

The diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Luxembourg began in November 1973. As of March 2023, Luxembourg investors had invested a total of US$2.6 billion into 64 projects in Vietnam, focusing on communication, construction, and real estate.

Luxembourg is the third largest EU investor and the 17th largest investor globally in Vietnam. In 2022, bilateral trade rose nearly 70% on-year to US$187 million. Of the figure, Vietnam exported US$130 million worth of products to Luxembourg and imported US$57 million from its European partner.

During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Luxembourg last December, the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding to promote trade and business cooperation and a deal to foster the partnership between the Vietnam Stock Exchange and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.
