State President sends letter to students on new academic year

Millions of students across the country attended the opening ceremony for the new academic year on Monday.

Dear teachers, managers, and employees of the educational sector, parents, and students!

In his letter on the opening day of the first academic year of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 5, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh wrote:

“I can picture the joy of the first day at school everywhere. The children are all happy to see their teachers and friends again after several months of vacation and extraordinary changes.”

Today, we once again feel that emotion as teachers and students join in the opening of the academic year, sharing the will and hope for a successful period ahead, especially after a learning disruption due to Covid-19.

“After the storm, comes the calm," as Ho Chi Minh said in his verses. In the academic year 2021-2022, the Vietnamese education sector continued to make progress. Universal and specialized education have seen improvements, moving up five notches to the 59th in the 2021 international ranking, showing wide recognition by the international community.

We successfully organized the graduation examination for high-school students in 2022. In addition, students in disadvantaged and remote areas continued receiving special care, while universities and colleges made it to well-known international rankings.

Our outstanding performances and results in global competitions again affirmed the intellect, ability, and resilience of the Vietnamese students.

On behalf of the Party and the State, I’d like to express my gratitude and appreciation for the determination and solidarity of the Education sector in overcoming all challenges in the past academic year.

A new academic year has begun and hopes will come along. I highly appreciate the new theme of the year set by the Ministry of Education: “Solidarity, creativity and best effort to accomplish the renovation missions; strengthen and improve the quality of education and training”. I’d like to call for the best efforts and creativity of all teachers, and managers, and educate employees to beat difficulties, fulfill their responsibilities, and do their best for the students and the cause of human development.

I hope parents would take better care of their children, and set a good example for the children’s future successes and the glory of the family, homeland, and country. The whole society should join the educational sector to create a civilized, orderly, and exemplary society, form a good culture and social standard for your children to follow and build a learning society that is accessible for all children, especially the disadvantaged ones. For students, you should uphold the nation's hard-working tradition, absorb the intellectual quintessence of mankind, have the spirit of dedication, and be self-reliant, thus contributing to the strong and prosperous growth of the country.

On the opening day of the academic year 2022-2023, I’d like to send my dearest wish to all teachers, managers, employees, and students to stay in good health and happiness and make the best achievements in the coming school year.
