Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung gave the remarks at a conference held today [June 17] to review the general election.

With a voter turnout rate of 99.16% on the election day [May 23], higher than the past election of 98.98%, Hanoi was among the top provinces and cities in terms of electoral participation.

Local voters have elected 29 deputies for the National Assembly, other 95 for the city-level People’s Council, 1,052 at district-level, and 10,593 at ward-level.

“The general election ended in success and was truly a festive occasion for the people,” said Dung, saying the result is of significance amid the current Covid-19 outbreak and conspiracies from hostile forces.

 Overview of the meeting.

Dung attributed the success to the thorough preparation process for the election of the entire municipal political system.

“The Hanoi Party Committee has set up 15 task-forces to supervise the preparation process along with ensuring effective Covid-19 countermeasures in every locality,” he noted.

He said the dedication from every public servant at the grassroots helped ensure the voting rights of the people, including those in quarantine zones, patients in hospitals, and the elderly who were unable to go to the polling station.

“The officials bear different tasks but have one common goal contributing to the success of the election. Their efforts have left a strong impression in the eye of the public,” Dung noted.

The city’s Party chief also lauded the active role of media outlets in raising public awareness on the significance of the general election, while every candidate went through a rigorous verification process to make sure only qualified person would be elected.
