Tet across Vietnam

Covid-19 cannot prevent people in Vietnam from celebrating the new year in their own cozy way.

People in Vietnam celebrate this Tet (the Lunar New Year) without fireworks, but festive atmosphere remains in the air in every corner of the country.

Tet for Vietnamese people means time to the reunion and enjoy good moments at home and on the streets. Let’s see how people across the Southeast Asian country get ready for new year's eve.

In Hanoi

Hanoians welcome Tet in cold weather. Since the afternoon of the last day of 2021 in the Lunar calendar [January 31], many people went to the streets to see Tet approaches, while others went to flower markets to get fresh bunches for home decoration. After that, they had dinner at home. For Vietnamese people, the year-end meal is very important for each family, marking the Tet union.

In the evening, downtown Hanoi became crowded with flows of people, including children, despite the closure of walking streets.

In Ho Chi Minh City

In the evening, Nguyen Hue Flower Street and nearby areas in District 1 marked the presence of groups of people. Those who went there are required to sanitize their hands and show vaccination status.

All adjacent parking lots are overloaded due to the increasing number of visitors.

Gia Dinh Flower Market attracted a large number of people who came to buy flowers just a few hours prior to new year's eve.

In the central parts, more people head towards Nguyen Hue Flower Street, causing traffic congestions along with Le Duan, Dong Khoi, Nguyen Du Streets. Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral was in the same situation.

In Danang

Bach Dang Spring Flower Street on the banks of the Han River is the destination of local residents and visitors. The 2-kilometer flower street becomes the new tourism attraction on the occasion of Tet. In addition to bustling streets, some parts of the city are quiet to give people moments for their own celebrations.

In Hoi An

Danang’s neighboring city of Hoi An, one of the most famous tourist attractions in the central region, is cool, good for outdoor activities on new year's eve. To ensure safety amid the pandemic, no Tet celebrations are held in the UNESCO-recognized ancient town today except for tribute to frontline health workers two days before the new year.

In Da Lat

Da Lat – “City of Eternal Spring” will have water music for the first time on new year's eve. The VND10-billion (US$434,000) system set up at Xuan Huong Lake would attract a large number of visitors.

In Can Tho

The core city of the Mekong Delta region is the destination for not only residents but people in surrounding areas. Favorite places include Spring Flower Garden in Hau River Park, Ninh Kieu Wharf, a water wharf, and a tourist and cultural site of Can Tho that dates back to the 19th century.
