The talks on the sidelines of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung
On the sidelines of the ASEAN 27 Summit, that is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had bilateral meetings with the leaders.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met US President
On the afternoon of November 21, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with US President Barack Obama.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that Vietnam would like to strengthen comprehensive partnership with the United States. The Prime Minister thanked for President Barack Obama coordinating efforts with leaders of the member countries to successfully conclude TPP negotiations. The Prime Minister asked the US to contribute more actively to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region, including in the East Sea.
President Barack Obama said that the United States and Vietnam should continue to closely cooperate to ratify and effectively implement the TPP. Americans appreciate Vietnam have cooperated effectively in the process of negotiating the TPP. On the issue of the East Sea, the United States supported the stance of Vietnam and that Vietnam and ASEAN countries should have a common voice and increase coordination settle disputes by peaceful means, based on the international law and regional agreements.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has invited President Barack Obama to visit Vietnam and President Barack Obama has accepted the invitation.
PM meets with Indonesian President
Indonesian President Joko Widodo affirmed his country’s consistent policy of fostering friendship and cooperation with Viet Nam while meeting with PM Nguyen Tan Dung on the sidelines of the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 22.
At the meeting, PM Dung and Indonesian President Widodo discussed measures to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation and dialogues on a wide range of areas like politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, defense and security, and maritime domain. PM Dung asked the Government of Indonesia to cases related to Vietnamese fishermen and fishing boats based on humane spirit.
The two leaders especially emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the East Sea, respecting the principles of international law, fully and effectively implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and accelerating the conclusion of a Code of Conduct for the East Sea.
PM Dung took the occasion to invite President Widodo to visit Viet Nam soon. The Indonesian President accepted the invitation.
PM meets with Australian PM
Earlier on November 21, PM Dung also met with Australian PM Malcom Turnbull to discuss ways to beef up cooperation in politics, economy, trade, investment, tourism, education and training between the two countries.
Congratulating Mr. Malcom Turnbull on his election as PM of Australia, PM Dung urged Australia to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese farm produce to penetrate the Australian market.
The two PMs agreed to continue fostering close coordination in implementing the initiative Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance.
Both sides shared their concerns over the recent complicated happenings in the East Sea which threaten peace, stability, security, and freedom of navigation and aviation.
They also stressed on the importance of serious compliance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea while avoiding the use or threat to use force as well as militarization in the East Sea.
PM Dung meets US Trade Representative
PM Nguyen Tan Dung urged the US to quickly recognize Viet Nam’s market economy status while meeting with Trade Representative Michael Froman on the sidelines of the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday.
The conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership talks process reflects the respect of institutions and interests of the relevant parties, including Viet Nam and the US, with a view to building trust to deepen economic and trade cooperation, PM Dung noted.
He stressed that Viet Nam is determined to continue the implementation of the country’s active international integration, especially the economic domain, and seriously follow commitments in the trade agreements with the US and the World Trade Organization.
Highly valuing the close cooperation between the two countries’ negotiation teams, Mr, Froman said the TPP will be a key premise for member countries to accelerate economic and trade cooperation.
The US expects to continue working closely with Viet Nam and other member countries for early signing, ratification and implementation of the agreement, said the US Trade Representative, adding that his country will provide necessary technical support for Viet Nam to fully exploit the opportunities from the deal.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with Thailand PM
Also on the sidelines of the ASEAN 27 Summit, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had bilateral meetings with Prime Minister of Thailand Prayuth Chan-ocha.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met and discussed with the Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha on a number of issues in bilateral relations, especially cooperation on labor and fisheries; while requesting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries to establish mechanisms for discussing fisheries cooperation.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged the two sides to well implement the MOU on labor cooperation; Thailand proposed to facilitate Vietnam workers in Thailand and allow all free Vietnam workers in Thailand are registered and continue the current job.
