U.S. aircraft carrier to make port call in Vietnam this year

Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry is still finalizing the date for this historic port call, according Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Hang told reporters during the Ministry’s periodic news briefing that, the visit would feature Vietnam independent and diverse diplomatic policy.
“Vietnam wants to develop deep ties with all the partners on basis of mutual interest, peace, stabilization, cooperation and development,” she added. Hence, the two nations are discussing on U.S. aircraft carrier making visit Vietnam in 2018, Hang said, without confirming the date.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc mentioned the visit during the bilateral meeting in White House, last May, 2017. Three months later, U.S. Defense Secretary Mattis and his Vietnamese counterpart Ngo Xuan Lich agreed on the visit during their first meeting in Pentagon.
The visit will be the first by a U.S. aircraft carrier to Vietnam after numerous decades, marking a bright milestone in the bilateral tie.
