US farm produce showcased in Vietnam, signaling increasing import

Culinary activities could help to boost trade and contribute to building a sustainable partnership between the US and Vietnam.

THE HANOI TIMES — The “US Agricultural Discovery” program kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) this weekend as part of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries (1995–2025).

The program, which was co-hosted by the US Department of Agriculture and the US Consulate General in HCMC, brought together 30 entities, including 15 US trade associations and 15 Vietnamese businesses. It showcased a variety of agricultural products, including grains, fruits, meat, eggs and processed foods made with US-imported ingredients.

As the first event of its kind in Vietnam, it was intended to provide visitors with an engaging experience, while fostering cultural and culinary exchange between the two countries, said Carolee A. Williamson, Acting US Consul General in HCMC.

She emphasized that both Vietnamese and American consumers prioritize safe and healthy products, therefore, every US product exported to Vietnam demonstrates the US's commitment to quality standards.

As well as agricultural products, visitors had the chance to explore unique US products such as cotton-based fashion items and pet products.

Dang Thi Dong Phuong, representing US associations for poultry and eggs, potatoes, dairy products and California raisins in Vietnam, said that the two countries' diverse agricultural products have unique characteristics and are not in competition with each other.

"Besides fresh produce, the US is a major supplier of agricultural raw materials for Vietnam’s processing industry, including corn and soybeans," she said.
