In the message released on August 31, the US top diplomat stated “Since the normalisation of bilateral ties 22 years ago, relations between our two countries have grown in ways many would have never predicted. We have moved past conflict and division, towards a flourishing partnership that spans political, security, economic and people-to-people ties”.

Tillerson said that the recent visits of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh, and Minister of Defence Ngo Xuan Lich to the US have reinforced this positive momentum between the two nations.

US President Donald Trump’s commitment to travel to Vietnam for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting this year promises to elevate the partnership to new heights, he highlighted. On the occasion, Tillerson wished all Vietnamese people peace and prosperity in the coming year.
