VATM, Boeing partner to modernize air traffic management system
The agreement addresses Vietnam's increasing demand for advanced air traffic management solutions.
THE HANOI TIMES — The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) and Boeing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 18 in Hanoi to jointly explore strategic projects aimed at modernizing Vietnam’s national air traffic management (ATM) system.

According to the VATM, as one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, Vietnam faces increasing pressure to optimize flight and airport operations to ensure the long-term sustainability of its ATM system.
For that reason, the collaboration with Boeing marks an important milestone in VATM's commitment to building a safer, smarter, and more efficient air traffic management system for Vietnam, said Nguyen Cong Long, VATM's CEO.
Under the MOU, the two parties will cooperate in airspace management, with a focus on supporting the opening of Long Thanh International Airport and optimizing operations across the Ho Chi Minh metroplex.
They will also develop advanced information systems that enable seamless, real-time data sharing between key aviation stakeholders, specifically, next-generation air traffic technologies, such as ICAO's Aviation System Block Upgrades roadmap and the FAA's NextGen framework, as well as capacity building through leadership, business, and technical training programs.
Mike Sinnett, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy, Product Development and Development Programs at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said air traffic in Vietnam is expected to double over the next decade, reaching more than 75 million passengers per year. Boeing's solutions help enhance the safety and sustainability of a modern air traffic system.
