Administrative reform efforts help save $275 million per year

The Vietnamese government continues to push up the application of e-government, in which people and businesses are the centre of service.

Vietnam’s administrative reform efforts in 2020 have saved over 18 million working days, equivalent to VND6.3 trillion (US$275 million) per year.

Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung revealed the data at the conference discussing the performance of the Government Office in 2020 on December 25.

“Such efforts have resulted in the simplification and removal of 3,893 business conditions, or 63% of the total, and 6,776 categories of goods subject for specialized inspection, or 68% of the total,” Mr. Dung noted, referring to a government’s resolution released in May that requires government agencies to cut or simplify at least 20% of business procedure compliance costs and 20% of the current regulations on business by 2025.

As part of the ongoing drive towards the development of e-government, in 2020, 100% of documents issued by the Government Office are in form of e-document, in turn saving VND148 billion per year (US$6.4 million).

“E-government model will help transform the way the government operate by providing public services on the online platform and put the people, enterprises at the center of its services,” stated Mr. Dung.

So far, the government has put into operation a number of IT systems under the e-government platform, including the e-cabinet system, the national public services portal, the national reporting system and the government operations center.

“All these systems have saved over VND8.5 trillion (US$370.1 million) per year,” he noted.
