Vietnam Airlines resumes Hanoi-Moscow direct flights

The resumption of flights enhances aviation connectivity, boosts trade and tourism, and strengthens diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Russia.

The Hanoi Times — After three years of suspension, Vietnam Airlines will relaunch direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow, Russia, on May 8, 2025.

The reopening of this route strengthens Vietnam Airlines' international presence while supporting its expansion strategy and enhancing operational efficiency.

The airline will initially operate two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays using Boeing 787 widebody aircraft. Frequency will increase to three flights per week from July 2026.

To mark the occasion, Vietnam Airlines is offering promotional fares, with round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Moscow starting at VND16.42(US$650), including taxes and fees. Passengers will receive a 50 percent discount on the first pre-paid baggage allowance and a 30 percent discount on seat selection fees. In addition, Lotusmiles members who purchase tickets and travel between May 8, 2025 and June 30, 2025 will receive bonus miles.

Economy Class passengers will earn 1,000 bonus miles and 1,000 tier miles per segment, while Business Class passengers will be awarded 2,000 bonus miles and 2,000 tier miles per segment. The promotion is valid for tickets issued between March 15, 2025 and May 31, 2025 for travel between May 8, 2025 and May 31, 2025. Passengers can book tickets through the airline's website, mobile app, ticket counters and authorized agents.

Russia remains a key market for Vietnam's tourism and trade sectors. In 2024, total passenger traffic between the two countries exceeded 220,000, an increase of 2.3 times compared to 2023. However, this figure is still only 26% of the 2019 level. The direct Hanoi-Moscow route is expected to enhance connectivity, support the recovery of the aviation and tourism sectors, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges.

The resumption of flights contributes to the strengthening of diplomatic and economic ties between Vietnam and Russia. It also marks a significant milestone in Vietnam Airlines' global expansion, coinciding with the airline's 30th anniversary celebrations.

In 2025, Vietnam Airlines plans to launch and resume 15 international routes to key destinations, including Italy, Russia, Denmark, China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the UAE.

The airline continues to expand its network and innovate, strengthening its position as a leading carrier that connects Vietnam to the world and fosters global economic integration.
