Vietnam, Angola marks 50 years of diplomatic relations
The Vietnam–Angola relationship has grown steadily thanks to political trust and close bonds.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam and Angola celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (November 12, 1975-2025) with a ceremony held in Luanda on August 7.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bui Thanh Son, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said the anniversary is a milestone for the two countries, especially as it is held as part of President Luong Cuong’s visit, the first trip to Angola paid by a top Vietnamese leader in nearly 20 years.

Son stressed that President Cuong’s visit holds special significance in setting future directions for bilateral ties and reflects Vietnam’s policy of continually enhancing partnerships with Angola and Africa.
He believed that with determination from both nations’ leaders, a sincere cooperative spirit, and support from international friends, the relationship would continue to thrive.
For his part, Tete Antonio, Angolan Minister of External Relations, said Angola and Vietnam have built a trusted and close-knit tie based on solidarity, mutual respect, and friendly cooperation.
He praised Vietnam’s courage and resilience, which have inspired the Angolan people, and expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s valuable support in agriculture, education, and health. Many Angolan experts trained in Vietnam have contributed significantly to their home country’s development.
Antonio called for deepening strategic cooperation and exploring new opportunities in trade, science, technology, culture, education, healthcare, and business links to enhance the relations.
At the ceremony, Vietnam's Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son awarded insignia to Vietnamese medical and education experts for their contributions to Angola’s development and bilateral ties.
