THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam has become a focus of global attention for streamlining its state apparatus and responding flexibly to economic challenges.

This information was given by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam on April 15 at a meeting with veteran revolutionaries and contributors and exemplary welfare families in northern Vietnam ahead of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification on April 30.

According to the general secretary,Vietnam has risen from a poor and backward country, burdened by the devastating effects of prolonged war and international isolation, to a dynamic socialist nation with middle-income status.

The country has also been deeply integrated into the global political and economic system and human civilization, assuming important international roles and actively contributing to many influential multilateral organizations and forums.

"Since early 2025, Vietnam has garnered special attention from the international community for its bold efforts to restructure administrative units and consolidate state organizations," he said, noting that the country has also implemented flexible and innovative solutions to address economic and financial challenges, especially in cooperation with foreign partners and in response to policy changes by the US administration.

Many heads of state have requested to visit Vietnam. In just the first four months of this year, Vietnam has welcomed more than 10 heads of state, and the number is expected to increase in the coming months.

At the same time, Vietnamese leaders have visited more than 10 countries. In early May, General Secretary To Lam will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Russia and several other countries.

Regarding relations with neighboring countries, he noted that Vietnam's relations with Laos and Cambodia have developed in both quality and depth, with closer and more effective cooperation in all fields. Strengthening deeper cooperation among ASEAN states is not only a priority for Vietnam, but also a common aspiration of many countries in the region. Several ASEAN members have proposed taking their bilateral relations with Vietnam to a new, more advanced stage.

"Vietnam has established a new position and reached new heights on the world political map. We have truly integrated into the world politics, global economy, and human civilization," To Lam affirmed. He added that the Party's Central Committee has identified three key tasks to focus on from now until 2030, when the Communist Party of Vietnam celebrates its 100th anniversary, and 2045, the centenary of the country's founding.

These tasks include ensuring a peaceful, secure, and orderly environment for national development; accelerating rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth; and improving the quality of life of all citizens, especially workers, to better meet both material and emotional needs, with the ultimate goal of "everything for the people."

History has shown that the future belongs to nations that have great aspirations and unite in action for the common good. Under the leadership of the Party, the Vietnamese people have united to achieve "extraordinary achievements" in the cause of national liberation, reunification, and building and safeguarding socialist Vietnam, he stressed.

"We will surely carry on the glorious traditions of our forefathers and relentlessly strive for greater achievements in the future," the general secretary affirmed.
