Vietnam authorities work on restoring international air services: Foreign ministry

Priority for entering Vietnam will be given to overseas Vietnamese, foreign experts, investors and business executives, diplomatic and official travelers and some other exceptional cases.

Following the direction Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vietnamese government agencies are actively working with relevant foreign counterparts on the resumption of air services between Vietnam and some countries and territories, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thanh Hang told a press meeting on July 16.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has notified a number of foreign representations in Vietnam about the plan to resume flight routes to Seoul (South Korea), Tokyo (Japan), Taiwan (China), Guangzhou (China), Vientiane (Laos) and Phnom Penh (Cambodia) in mid-July.

The reopening of the air travel services requires the compliance with epidemic counter-measures under specific conditions, in order to prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the community, contributing to economic recovery.

The Ministry of Transport is discussing with relevant authorities of the above-mentioned countries and territories to agree on specific flight technical issues, frequencies and itineraries.

It is expected that priority for entering Vietnam will be given to overseas Vietnamese, foreign experts, investors and business executives, diplomatic and official travelers and some other exceptional cases.

Travelers arriving in Vietnam must comply with the medical quarantine requirements and undergo isolation according to the regulations on disease prevention and control.

According to the Ministry of Transport’s recent proposal to the prime minister, the first regular flights from Vietnam to some international destinations are expected to be launched in early August.
