Vietnam calls for immediate ceasefire in Israel-Hamas conflict

Vietnam strongly condemns the violent attacks against civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists, and critical infrastructure.

In line with the UN General Assembly resolution of October 27, Vietnam calls for an immediate ceasefire, respect for international law, protection of civilians and infrastructure, establishment of humanitarian corridors, and swift release of hostages.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang underscored this position at a weekly press briefing today [November 9].

In response to a question about Vietnam's stance on the escalating tension in Gaza, Hang noted that Vietnam welcomes and fully supports the efforts of the international community to promote restraint, dialogue, and peaceful settlement of disputes based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, to achieve a just, acceptable and lasting solution for the Middle East peace process.

At the same time, Vietnam strongly condemns violent attacks against civilians, humanitarian workers, journalists, and critical infrastructure, she added.

Regarding the protection of citizens, Hang said that given the complex and escalating situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Vietnamese citizens to proactively leave Israel as a precautionary safety measure since October 16.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 13 Vietnamese citizens have safely returned home on commercial and other countries' flights, evacuating citizens from Israel in a humanitarian spirit. Last week, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced the evacuation of 46 people from Israel, including four Vietnamese citizens.

Following the instruction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has taken proactive measures to develop and implement a citizen protection plan to ensure the safe relocation of Vietnamese citizens in Israel to secure areas, Hang added.

For those who choose to stay, the Foreign Ministry has urged them to leave Israel immediately. In case of emergencies or need for information on civil protection plans, they can contact the citizen protection hotline of the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel and the citizen protection hotline of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
