This view was shared during a meeting between Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and President of the Cambodian People’s Party and President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen on November 22.

At the meeting, Man reiterated that the Party and State of Vietnam always prioritize strengthening and enhancing the long-standing, friendly, comprehensive, and sustainable relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

This commitment reflects the spirit of "better a close neighbor than a distant relative," aiming to benefit the people of both nations and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

Man stressed the geographical proximity of Vietnam and Cambodia and their shared historical roots, as both ruling parties are descended from the Indochinese Communist Party. He underscored their solidarity in past struggles for national liberation and unity, as well as in the ongoing efforts to build and protect their nations. History has demonstrated that cooperation and mutual support are indispensable and imperative for the security and development of both countries.

For his part, Hun Sen expressed his gratitude for Vietnam's wholehearted and meaningful support in the past and present. He emphasized the need for closer and stronger cooperation in all areas, including political, economic, trade, defense, and security, amidst current regional and global challenges.

Hun Sen suggested that both countries continue to effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, maintain strategic collaboration frameworks, and enhance solidarity, friendship, and partnership among Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. He recommended adopting flexible and effective measures to further strengthen these relations in the new era.

 Overview of the meeting.

During their meeting, the two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the positive outcomes of cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Senate and National Assembly of Cambodia, built on the foundation of historical solidarity and mutual support between the two Parties and States.

Man suggested several initiatives to enhance bilateral cooperation. These include maintaining existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly high-level meetings between the two Parties, and fostering regular exchanges between senior leaders of both nations. Vietnam continues to support Cambodia’s peaceful, secure, and stable development, as a common interest.

Hun Sen agreed with Man’s suggestion to uphold the principle of not allowing any political or military force to use its territory to harm the other country. He stressed the importance of effectively implementing signed agreements, cooperating to prevent hostile activities, combatting transnational crimes, and protecting national security. He also highlighted the need for strict control to address cross-border crime, prevent fake news, and counter the misuse of social media to incite division between the two Parties and countries.

On this occasion, Man thanked  Hun Sen and the Cambodian government for their consistent support and favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, allowing them to live, work, and study in stability.

He suggested that both sides continue to innovate and diversify public communication methods to ensure that citizens, especially the younger generation, understand the traditional solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.
