Vietnam earns big at 2025 Asian Wushu Cup Finals

This result motivates athletes for upcoming events, including the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, the 2025 World Games, and the 2025 World Championships.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Vietnamese Wushu team had an impressive showing at the 2025 Asian Cup in China, earning two gold, eight silver, and two bronze medals and securing third place overall.

The biggest highlight was winning two gold medals in Sanda, a full-contact fighting discipline in Wushu. In the women’s 60 kg class, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy delivered a determined performance, defeating host athlete Zhang Xiaoyu 2–1.

Then, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hien claimed a 2-0 victory over Chan Tsz Ching of Hong Kong in the women’s 56 kg division.

Furthermore, Vietnamese athletes achieved notable successes in Taolu, a performance-based discipline involving unarmed or armed forms. Vu Van Tuan and Nguyen Thi Hien won silver medals, and Do Duc Tai and his teammates won six more silver and two bronze medals in other categories.

This year, Vietnam sent 19 athletes to the tournament, including familiar names such as Duong Thuy Vi, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi, and Nong Van Huu. While not all competitors earned medals, each played a vital role in the team’s overall success.

The 2025 Asian Cup marked the first time that Taolu was included as an official competition event, providing additional opportunities for Vietnamese athletes to excel.

Team leader Vu Van Trung said these results motivate them for upcoming events, including the 33rd SEA Games, the 2025 World Games, and the 2025 World Championships.

Previously, Vietnamese wushu had already made its mark by winning six gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games and three at the 2024 Asian Wushu Championships, reaffirming its strong position in the region and across Asia.
