Vietnam, IAEA strengthen cooperation

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will continue to closely cooperate with and assist Vietnam in the field of its charge, especially nuclear safety and security.

The Hanoitimes - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will continue to closely cooperate with and assist Vietnam in the field of its charge, especially nuclear safety and security.


IAEA General Director Yukiya Amano made the affirmation while receiving Ambassador Nguyen Thiep, Vietnam ’s permanent representative to the agency, who presented his credentials o­n October 29.

Yukiya praised Vietnam ’s efforts and progress in developing nuclear energy as well as its cooperation with the IAEA in building infrastructure and legal framework and training human resources.

Thiep spoke highly of the IAEA’s technical assistance to Vietnam over the years and affirmed Vietnam ’s support to the central role of the agency in coordinating efforts aimed at accelerating the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.

He expressed Vietnam ’s wish for IAEA’s effective and practical assistance to fulfil its national nuclear power programme, especially in nuclear safety and security
