Vietnam imposes mandatory quarantine to all visitors from ASEAN, Europe, US

Vietnam made the move after a surge in infections in neighboring countries and Europe.

Vietnam has required mandatory 14-day quarantine for all visitors from the US, the Europe, and ASEAN countries as the latest move in the fight against the pandemic that has caused 68 infections in the country.

Mass quarantine at designated facilities shall be expanded to include all entrants from the US, European and ASEAN countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

Citizens of ASEAN countries or those from other countries who have stayed or transited through ASEAN member states within 14 days prior to the date of their entry into Vietnam will be subject to compulsory concentrated quarantine for 14 days since the date of arrival, starting from 12:00am of March 18.

From March 18, Vietnam has suspends the issuance of new visas for all foreigners.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport urged the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to direct all airlines to inform all passengers from ASEAN countries that they should make careful consideration when buying tickets to Vietnam.

The CAAV was also asked to direct all Vietnamese airlines to request passengers on domestic flights to fill out compulsory health declarations when doing check-in procedures and guide passengers to fill out the health declarations electronically.

The airlines must also check all passengers’ body temperature before boarding.

In addition, the MOFA said home quarantine and further medical monitoring at place of work and residence, and monitoring by groups shall be applicable to those not subject to mass quarantine.

So far, eight out of 10 ASEAN member states are hit by the pandemic with Malaysia confirming 673 infected people, Singapore 266, Thailand 212, the Philippines 193, Indonesia 172, Vietnam 68, Brunei 56, and Cambodia 35.
