Vietnam's longest mural recognized as record

A mural painting in the central province of Ninh Thuan has been recognized as the longest of its kind in the country by the Vietnam Records Organization (Vietkings). 

The 900-meter long and 1.7-meter high mural depicts various themes, including local tourist spots, traditional fishing villages, and environmental protection activities, aiming to raise the local community's awareness of environmental protection. It was created by nearly 100 amateur painters who participated in a competition organized in December 2022.

Vietnamese player crowned in billiards world championship

Vietnamese billiard player Tran Quyet Chien won the three-cushion billiards world championship in Porto, Portugal, on July 2 (local time). This is his second world championship after his last one in 2018. Chien is also among the players to win more than one world championship.

Chien defeated seventh-seeded Sameh Sidhom 50-30 in 27 moves in the final match. He gained 80 points to return to the top 10 of the Union Mondiale de Billiard (UMB) world ranking.

World's largest shipping company launches new service in Vietnam

MSC Adonis, a vessel of the world's largest shipping company MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Holding SA, arrived at Vietnam's SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau last weekend. It is one of the six vessels operating on MSC's inter-Asia Shikra service, launched at the end of April.

According to SSIT, the service route will meet the growing demand among Asian nations, provide better mobility for global customers and connect the terminal to others in Asia. As a deep-water terminal, SSIT is committed to providing world-class services to all customers and contributing to the future development of Vietnam's ports.

Vietnam's instant noodle consumption ranks third in the world

Vietnam consumed about 8.48 billion packs of instant noodles in 2022, ranking third after China/Hong Kong and Indonesia, according to the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA). The consumption decreased slightly by nearly 1% year-on-year. 

WINA statistics show that the consumption of this product continues to be mainly concentrated in Asian markets such as China, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan. The Southeast Asian region accounts for approximately 23.5% of the global demand for instant noodles.

VNR targets small profit in 2023

The Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) targets a modest after-tax profit of VND3 billion (US$127,000) in 2023 after suffering a loss of VND200 billion (US$8.5 million) last year. Total revenue is expected to grow 21% year-on-year to VND6.5 trillion (US$275 million). 

To achieve the targets, VNR will sell all its shares in 13 member companies, improve services and cut costs.

Vietnam to open four new stations on North-South Railway

The Ministry of Transport said it would put into operation four new stations this month as part of the project to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway.

The new stations include Phong Phu, Ham Liem and Vinh Tan (passing through Binh Thuan Province), Cam Thinh Dong (in Khanh Hoa Province). They are all passing loops that allow two trains to pass each other on a single track, not for picking up or dropping off passengers.
