Vietnam to start high-speed rail construction by Dec 2026

Vietnam plans to select contractors for the North-South high-speed rail project by November 2026 and break ground by December. Land clearing in 20 provinces must be completed by the end of 2026, and construction is scheduled to be completed by 2035 for the 1,541-km line connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with a design speed of 350 km/h.

Sweden’s group to build US$1 billion textile complex in Binh Dinh

Sweden's Syre Group on April 25 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to invest US$1 billion in a polyester textile recycling complex in the central province of Binh Dinh that aims to make Vietnam a global hub for circular textiles. The plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, which is expected to be operational by 2028, will support Vietnam's net-zero goals and green growth strategy with high-tech, large-scale fiber-to-fiber recycling solutions.

Vietnam celebrates World Intellectual Property Day 2025

An event themed “Intellectual Property and Music" to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on April 26 aims to honor the creative contributions within the music industry and showcase the important role of intellectual property in protecting the rights and values of artists. The Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam considers intellectual property as a key pillar of the national innovation strategy.

Vietnam displays innovation at GITEX Asia 2025 

For the first time, Vietnamese enterprises and startups participated in the global exhibition GITEX Asia 2025, held in Singapore on April 23-25. At the event, Vietnam and the organizers also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, officially announcing Vietnam as the host of GITEX Frontier 2026 and 2027.

Vinfast’s revenue hit $1.8B in 2024

VinFast earned $1.8 billion from electric vehicle (EV) sales in 2024, up 58% from 2023, with 97,000 vehicles delivered. VinFast eyes 200,000 sales in 2025 and targets overseas markets like India, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Vietjet launches two new air routes to Japan

Vietjet Air inaugurated two new routes between Ho Chi Minh City and Nagoya, starting on April 24, and Fukuoka on April 25. This expansion brings the total number of Vietjet flights between Vietnam and Japan to 138 weekly flights. This development is an important step in Vietjet's route expansion strategy within the Asian market.

Danang steps up enforcement against IUU fishing

Danang is intensifying its efforts to eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing to ensure sustainable fisheries development. The city has resolved all violations, monitors 100% of vessels in ports, and enforces full compliance with Vietnamese vessel monitoring systems (VMS) tracking. Authorities will maintain strict inspections and penalties to prevent future violations and support a sustainable marine economy.

2025 Asian Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off in Phu Yen

More than 40 athletes from 22 teams representing 10 Asian countries and territories joined the 2025 Asian Women's Beach Volleyball Championship on April 25 in the central province of Phu Yen. The tournament, hosted by the Asian Volleyball Confederation in coordination with Vietnamese authorities, promises intense competition and valuable international experience for the players.
