Vietnam protests Taiwan's military exercises in Truong Sa archipelago

Taiwan (China) must stop live-fire drills in the waters around Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island in Vietnam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, as the activity is a serious violation of Vietnam's territorial sovereignty over these islands, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang told reporters on August 28.

Hang said the action escalates tensions in the East Sea (known as the South China Sea) and threatens regional peace, stability, maritime safety and security.

Vietnam, Singapore to strengthen cooperation in education and training

Vietnamese and Singaporean education ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Hanoi on August 28 to foster cooperation between the two countries' schools, teachers and students. According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, the Singapore government plans to double the number of scholarships for outstanding Vietnamese students to study in Singapore.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong.

Binh Duong establishes Vietnam-Singapore Innovation Center

The southern province of Binh Duong will establish the Vietnam-Singapore Innovation Center to promote economic development based on innovation, science and technology, according to a recent decision signed by Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Vo Van Minh.

Becamex IDC Corporation will lead the construction and operation of the center in cooperation with the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park joint venture.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Vietnam presented with insignia
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Vietnam Yerlan Baizhanov received the insignia "For Peace and Friendship among Nations" on August 28 in recognition of his invaluable contributions to friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Yerlan played an important role in the visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Vietnam on August 20-22, the first trip of a Kazakh president to Vietnam in 12 years. The Kazakh ambassador pledged further contributions to the development of bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia celebrates 20th anniversary

The Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia on August 28 held the 20th anniversary celebration, highlighting its achievements over the past two decades. The association will continue to improve the connection among the Vietnamese community in Cambodia and foster the bilateral ties between the two countries.

VIATT 2024 to be held in Ho Chi Minh City


The first edition of the Vietnam International Apparel, Textile and Textile Technology Exhibition (VIATT 2024) will be held from February 28 to March 1, 2024 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in Ho Chi Minh City. The exhibition is expected to attract over 500 exhibitors and around 35,000 visitors.


The fair will serve as a rendezvous for suppliers and buyers in all categories to unlock the full potential of this market and maximize business opportunities.


Lawmakers agree to rename the Citizen Identification Law


A majority of national legislators on August 28 agreed to rename the Law on Citizen Identification to the Law on Identification to ensure the benefits, rights and obligations of people of Vietnamese origin who do not have citizenship.


A report by the Ministry of Public Security on August 28 revealed that some 31,000 people of Vietnamese origin do not have legal citizenship, which has hampered the ministry's efforts to ensure social security and safety.

Business registration in Hanoi up 7% Jan-Aug


The number of newly established businesses in January-August increased by 7% year-on-year, reaching 21,100, the municipal Department of Planning and Investment reported. In August 2023, the figure reached 2,716, up 19%, with registered capital of VND31.2 trillion (nearly US$1.3 billion).
