Vietnam ports see 14% growth in cargo volume by 2024
The Vietnam Maritime Administration has reported that the volume of cargo passing through ports increased by 14% year-on-year to 865 million tons in 2024. During this period, the number of seagoing vessels passing through ports reached 103,000, up 2% year-on-year. For 2025, the maritime sector plans to focus on digital transformation and the development of green and smart ports.

Inspections suggest handling of troubled US$4.7 billion
Vietnam's Ministry of Finance has conducted more than 72,000 inspections in 2024 and recommended measures to deal with VND115.32 trillion (US$4.7 billion) resulting from breaches. The inspections uncovered gaps in financial management and prevented losses worth VND14.58 trillion (US$607 million) in state revenue. Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan emphasized the strengthening of inspections to improve financial governance, fight corruption, and optimize resources for effective financial management in 2025.
Lam Dong launches Da Lat Flower Festival Specialty Street
The Central Highland province of Lam Dong launched the Wine, Tea, Coffee and Specialty Street program on December 26 as part of the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival 2024. The event showcases and sells One Commune One Product (OCOP) items and local specialties, attracting a large number of visitors. Hanoi boosts transport capacity for Tet travel surge
Hanoi plans to deploy nearly 2,500 additional buses from January 20 to February 4, 2025 to cope with increased travel. Key bus terminals such as Giap Bat, My Dinh and Gia Lam will handle up to 350% more passengers. Authorities are focusing on safety, preventing overcrowding, and enforcing ticket regulations. Increased security and traffic measures, including permits for additional buses, are aimed at ensuring smooth operations during this peak season.
Danang establishes official partnerships with four Japanese cities
The central city of Danang has officially established partnerships with four Japanese cities, including Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama and Kisarazu. Japan is the leading investor in Danang with US$1.14 billion in 261 projects. Japan remains a popular study abroad destination for Danang's youth, with 223 students from the city choosing to study there from January to June.
