Ho Chi Minh City needs up to 29,000 part-time workers for Tet

Some 25,000-29,000 workers will be needed to keep production going during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Department Director Huynh Le Nhu Trang states that jobs will mainly be available in the textile and garment, footwear, and hospitality sectors. The southern city may need to fill about 57,400 jobs after Tet.

Six hotels named the best in Vietnam: Travel & Leisure

Grand Mecure Hanoi has been named one of the top six hotels, restaurants and bars in Vietnam in 2023 by US magazine Travel & Leisure. The list also includes Anam Mui Ne in the southern province of Binh Thuan, Le Festa Phu Quoc in the southern province of Kien Giang, and Voco Ma Belle, Fusion Resort & Villa, and Danang Marriott Resort & Spa - Non Nuoc Beach Villas in the central coastal city of Danang.

Cashless transactions up 50% in 2023

As of 2023, the number of cashless transactions reached 11 billion, up 50% year-on-year, with a total value of VND200 quadrillion (US$8.25 trillion), according to the Payment Department of the State Bank of Vietnam. Of these, the number of transactions via the Internet increased by two billion, worth VND52 trillion (US$2.1 trillion), up 56% in volume and 5.8% in value year-on-year. More than seven billion transactions were made through smartphones, worth VND49 trillion ($2 trillion), up 61% in volume and 12% in value year-on-year.

Vietnamese EV maker to build manufacturing plant in India

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast plans to build its first manufacturing plant in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India, Reuters reported. The plant will manufacture batteries in the world's third-largest auto market. The automaker planned to launch three electric vehicle models in April this year as part of its strategy to enter India.

Tan Son Nhat Airport uses birds of prey sounds to scare away birds

Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City plans to install a VND400 million (US$16,400) raptor sound simulation to scare away birds and tighten aircraft safety standards. The same method has been used at other airports around the country. Birds remain a threat to all airports and airlines, as their impact can cause serious damage to aircraft and compromise flight safety.
