US Navy ship visits Vietnam

The US Navy's 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) and the US Coast Guard Cutter Waesche are in Cam Ranh, Vietnam, on July 8-13 for a five-day joint Navy-Coast Guard routine port visit.

The 7th Fleet, LCC 19, and CGC Waesche command will meet with Vietnam People's Navy, Vietnam Coast Guard, and Khanh Hoa Province leaders, in addition to professional exchanges and community relations activities.

Vietnam launches video clip promoting railway tourism

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) has launched a promotional video for railway tourism to mark the 64th anniversary of the founding of the sector (1960-2024).

The minutes-long clip captures stunning and breathtaking scenes of a cross-Vietnamese journey on the North-South Railway, which connects major cities and famous tourist attractions across the country.


Northern provinces discuss cross-border transportation cooperation with Chinese localities

Representatives from Vietnam's northern provinces of Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien discussed cross-border transportation cooperation with their counterparts from China's Yunnan Province at a meeting on July 10. The meeting focused on mutual support in infrastructure development, especially highways, railways, and waterways running through the two countries.

The two sides promised to speed up the planning of the standard gauge railway connecting Lao Cai with Hanoi and the northern province of Haiphong, and to build a new railway section connecting Lao Cai station with China's Bac Ha Khau station.

Vietnam, Philippines to set up rice industry alliance

The agriculture ministers of Vietnam and the Philippines agreed to establish a rice industry alliance at a meeting in Hanoi this week.

This will promote the rice trade relationship to an investment partnership, allowing Vietnam to send appropriate technology to optimize the rice production chain of the Philippines instead of just exporting milled rice. Vietnam has been the largest supplier of rice to the Philippines for decades.

Empowering women in green transition

A seminar on empowering women and women-run businesses in green transition was held in Hanoi on July 10.

The event was part of the Empower Women for Climate-Resilient Societies project funded by the United Nations Environment Program. Discussions focused on solutions and initiatives to support women-run businesses in the green transition.

Vietnam to play friendly against Thailand in September

The Vietnam Football Association and the Football Association of Thailand have agreed to organize a friendly match between the national teams in September. The match will serve as a warm-up for both teams as they prepare for the ASEAN Cup 2024 in November.

Vietnam's cotton imports reach US$1.53 billion in H1

Vietnam's cotton imports in H1 of 2024 reached 766,000 tons worth US$1.5 billion, up 21.6% and 9% on year, respectively, according to the General Statistics Office. The General Department of Customs reported that the average cotton import price in the first 5 months of 2024 reached nearly US$2,000/ton. Among them, China ranked first in cotton import prices with an average of US$3,900/ton. South Korea and the US followed with US$2,200/ton and US$2,100/ton, respectively.

800 businesses participate in international footwear exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City

About 800 companies from 21 countries participated in the International Footwear and Leather Products Exhibition and the 24th Shoes and Leather Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City on July 10. During the three-day event, visitors will see an exhibition of machinery, equipment, raw materials, finished leather and footwear products. In addition, a technical conference has been organized to discuss advances in production and new trends and developments in the industry, providing useful knowledge for businesses.

Vietnam targets full mobile broadband coverage on highways, industrial zones by 2025

The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a plan to achieve 100% mobile broadband coverage on all national highways, expressways and railways by 2025. According to the plan, the average download speed for 5G Internet services will reach at least 100 Mbps in covered areas. In addition, 2G technology services will be phased out on land, except for Truong Sa and Hoang Sa islands and offshore oil platforms.
