Infrastructure projects inaugurated in Hung Yen

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the inauguration of a 24-kilometer road linking the Hanoi-Haiphong and Cau Gie-Ninh Binh highways in the northern province of Hung Yen on July 7.

On the same day, PM Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tan Phuc-Vong Phan road, which is 29.2km long and has a total investment of over VND2.98 trillion (US$117.3 million) from the local budget.

Also, on July 7, the Prime Minister toured Thang Long Industrial Park No.2 in My Hai Township, the largest and most advanced industrial park in Hung Yen. It has a total area of more than 525 hectares and a total investment of over US$206 million.

Vietnam ranks high in 2024 South East Asia Rowing and Canoeing

Vietnam topped the medals table at the 2024 Southeast Asian U19 and U23 Rowing and Canoeing Championships, which concluded in the northern port city of Haiphong on July 7.

The Vietnamese team won 58 gold, 53 silver, and 33 bronze medals. The South East Asian U19 and U23 Rowing and Canoeing Championships brought together more than 500 athletes and coaches this year, with 264 for rowing and nearly 300 for canoeing.

Lang Son Geopark seeks UNESCO status

A delegation of UNESCO experts visited the northern Vietnamese province of Lang Son from July 6 to 10 to conduct an on-site assessment of the dossier submitted to the organization to certify the Lang Son Geopark.

Covering more than 4,800 square kilometers in eight district-level localities, Lang Son Geopark is one of the largest of its kind in Vietnam and boasts a number of unique values.

International Marathon kicked off to convey message on environmental protection

The 4th Vietcombank Mekong Delta International Marathon took place in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang on July 7, spreading the message of environmental protection.

Themed "Shining Together", the tournament aims to promote the physical exercise movement and the development of the marathon and to raise public awareness of sustainable growth in the region through tree planting activities.

Vietnamese film wins Best Asian Film

Cu li Never Cries has won the Best Asian Film Award at the 2nd Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF 2). Held from June 29 to July 6 in Danang, the event celebrated Asian and Vietnamese cinema with 63 entries, including high-profile films such as Mai and "Face Off 7: One Wish". "Mai" led the Vietnamese film category with three awards, while Cu li Never Cries triumphed in the Asian film category.

The festival honored Vietnamese director Pham Thien An for Inside Yellow Cocoon Shell and Vietnamese director Dang Nhat Minh for lifetime achievement.

Festival for Peace taking place in Quang Tri

The Festival for Peace was kicked off at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Site in Quang Tri Province last weekend. Themed "Together for a Peaceful World", the event will run throughout July and commemorate important anniversaries, including the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Accords and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's reunification.

The festival highlights Vietnam's enduring spirit of peace and inspires international cooperation and solidarity. The opening ceremony featured the Peace Bell Ceremony and a special artistic lighting performance with nearly 1,000 drones. 

Ha Tinh police destroy weapons

Thach Ha District Police in Ha Tinh Province on July 7 destroyed various weapons, explosives and assistive devices. The items included 57 firearms (1 military weapon, 22 air guns, 34 homemade air guns), ten military and shotgun bullets, firearm components, 6 boxes of firecrackers, 171 ball firecrackers, 1,264 homemade firecrackers, and 13.56 kg of explosives. These items were turned in by people during a campaign by the district police since late 2023 to encourage the public to surrender illegal weapons and combat related crimes.
