Saigontourist Group offers promotions for Japanese arrivals

Japanese visitors to Vietnam can enjoy a special promotional programme launched by Saigontourist Group from today (March 1). The program, which will run until December 31, 2024, offers Japanese visitors discounts on products and services from more than 70 local businesses that are members of the Saigontourist Group.

VCCI proposes raising annual taxable income for business households

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has proposed to the Ministry of Finance that the annual taxable income of individuals and business households be raised from the current VND100 million (US$4,056) to VND180-200 million (US$7,300-8,113).

The VCCI argues that the increase will allow micro-enterprises to meet fewer tax obligations and liabilities, thus improving their performance.

Foreign students to watch Dao, Pho va Piano for free

Laotian and Cambodian students in Ho Chi Minh City will have free access to watch the hit movie Dao, Pho va Piano (Peach Blossoms, Pho and Piano) at Cinestar Hai Ba Trung tonight (March 1) at 7 pm. The activity aims to introduce Lao and Cambodian students to the Vietnamese people's resistance against France in 1946-1954.

The film, directed by Phi Tien Son, has become a box office success in recent weeks. It depicts the life and struggle of the people of Hanoi at the end of 1946, when the invading French army tried to reoccupy Vietnam.

Danang to build international financial center

The Ministry of Planning and Investment is seeking opinions from government agencies and experts on setting up an international financial center in the central coastal city of Danang. The center will have its own financial and tax regulations and will be well connected to other financial centers in the country.

The idea is to give Danang a new boost to improve its position in the global economic chain.

On February 28, representatives of the National Innovation Center (NIC) and Siemens EDA presented software to Vietnam's leading universities training semiconductor professionals.  Siemens EDA is committed to providing the most advanced chip and PCB design software to Vietnam through the NIC.

Siemens EDA will help Vietnamese companies design complex and intelligent electronic products faster with its comprehensive technology solutions for semiconductor chip and PCB design and manufacturing with strong AI integration.

HawaExpo 2024 to be held in Ho Chi Minh City this month

The largest export furniture fair (HawaExpo) 2024 will be held in Ho Chi Minh City from March 6 to 9. The exhibition is expected to attract more than 500 exhibitors, of which over 80% are Vietnamese manufacturers, and 25,000 visitors.

The event promises to be an important forum for companies in the wood industry to discuss strategies for improving national competitiveness with experts from both domestic and international markets.

Cam Lam to become international airport city

Cam Lam in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa will be developed as an international airport city, following the model of a smart and innovative urban area, according to the latest decision of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the general planning of the new Cam Lam urban area in the southern province of Khanh Hoa until 2045.

The new Cam Lam urban area will focus on the development of financial and commercial services, education and training, and research institutes for high-tech applications, and will play an important role in the innovation and digital economy development of the province and the country.

Vietnam's merchandise export turnover exceeds US$59.3 billion

In the first two months of 2024, Vietnam's goods export turnover reached over US$59.3 billion, up 19.2% year-on-year. The domestic sector accounted for $19.67 billion, up 27.4%, while the foreign-invested sector accounted for $34.95 billion, up 13.3%.

Vietnam's largest exporting market is the US, estimated at $17.4 billion, while its largest importing market is China, estimated at $20.9 billion. The trade surplus is valued at $4.72 billion, an increase of 25.8% over the same period last year.
