Sun Group kicks off new complex in Phu Quoc

Property developer Sun Group began constructing a VND50 trillion (US$2 billion) entertainment and accommodation complex on Hon Thom Islet in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, on March 30. Local authorities expect the new project, among others, to turn the island into a tourism hub for the nation and the region.

The complex, which includes a water park, theme park, aquarium, theatre and resorts, covers an area of 310 hectares. It will play a key role in raising public awareness of environmental protection and limiting its negative impact on living conditions.

Phu Yen tourism and culture week 2024 opens

The Phu Yen Culture and Tourism Week 2024 festival opened on the night of  March 30 in the capital of the central coastal province of Phu Yen. The event, which runs until April 5, will showcase the province's specialties, local cultural values, traditional art performances and intangible heritage presentations.

In recent years, Phu Yen has been looking for ways to improve its tourism sector. The central coastal province aims to make tourism the leading industry by 2030, making it a green, friendly and safe destination for travelers.

Vietnam nominates new candidate for inscription on UNESCO Intangible Heritage List

Vietnam will submit the profiles of Mo Muong, a traditional ritual of the Muong ethnic group, and Cheo, the northern stage performance, for inscription on UNESCO's Intangible Heritage List.

Mo Muong is a celebratory ceremony performed by the Muong ethnic group living in the mountainous areas of Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and Dak Lak provinces. Meanwhile, Cheo is a traditional folk show often seen in the north, telling stories of domestic life to honor the beauty of people and criticize bad actions.

Vietnamese professor nominated for French doctorate certification

Vietnamese professor Nguyen Thi Mong Diep has been nominated by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for certification of her doctorate. The 40-year-old candidate is now a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Quy Nhon University in Binh Dinh Province.

If approved, the certification will allow Diep to carry out new research and studies with the support of French agencies, deepening the educational ties between Vietnam and France.

Vietnam, China firms team up to build duty-free stores


Chinese retailer CTG Duty-Free and Vietnam's Import and Export Pan-Pacific Co Ltd have signed an agreement to build three duty-free stores in Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province and Mong Cai in Quang Ninh province. The deal is expected to boost duty-free sales in Vietnam.

The three stores are expected to open by the end of this year, attracting an additional 25 million Chinese tourists to Vietnam . China is Vietnam's second largest tourist market, and Chinese travelers spend an average of $1,000 per day traveling abroad.
