Vietnam's trade to Senegal rockets in January-April
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s exports to Senegal reached $43.43 million, almost equaling the total for 2024. Key items included rice, pepper, and fruit. At a virtual trade conference on May 14, representatives from Senegal, a stable West African market with open trade policies, expressed a desire to seek deeper cooperation with Vietnam, including investment and official distribution partnerships, to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
Vietnam leads Southeast Asia in car sales in Q1
With 118,813 units sold in the first quarter (Q1) this year, Vietnam’s car sales increased 24% year-on-year, surpassing other major Southeast Asian markets. Strong economic momentum and improved domestic consumption fueled this growth, enabling Vietnam to surpass the Philippines in total sales (117,074 units). Sales of hybrid vehicles surged 80%, and commercial and truck sales rose sharply, boosted by increased public investment and the launch of affordable new models.
Pagoda opens overnight for public veneration on Buddhist sacred relics
Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi stayed open overnight to accommodate pilgrims as more people flocked to show their veneration on Buddha's sarira, a national treasure of India, which is enshrined at the pagoda from May 13 to 16. Thousands of Vietnamese Buddhists gathered to pay homage, promoting compassion, peace, and spiritual connections between Vietnam and India.

Vietnam urges safer, greener transport
As an active participant in the 8th UN Global Road Safety Week from May 12 to 18, 2025, Vietnam is focusing on reducing high-risk behaviors such as drunk driving, speeding, and using phones while driving. The National Traffic Safety Committee emphasizes the benefits of walking and cycling, and advocates for stronger protection of vulnerable road users in order to promote sustainability, public health, and safer urban transportation.
Wrestling event preserves cultural heritage
Almost 200 wrestlers from 17 provinces and sectors are competing in the 29th National Traditional Wrestling Championship in the central province of Nghe An from May 14 to 18. The event is part of the 2025 Sen Village Festival and features 230 matches across 18 weight categories. It aims to preserve Vietnam’s martial heritage and honor President Ho Chi Minh on the occasion of his 135th birthday on May 19.
Art contest fosters pride in youth heritage
The second “Vietnam Cultural Heritage Through Painting” contest is now open until September 30 to inspire young artists to preserve and celebrate Vietnam’s heritage. This year's edition offers 30 prizes totaling nearly $42,000, including special awards for youth aged 6–22. Winners' works will be exhibited nationwide.
Danang launch crime crackdown to ensure tourism safety
Danang police on May 15 launched a two-month campaign to crack down on crime and ensure public order. The move aims to reduce criminal cases by at least 10% and theft and assault by 50%. The operation will also ensure security for the Danang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), which will take place from May 31 to July 12, as well as for the 2025 summer tourism season.
