Ninh Binh ready for "Tam Coc-Trang An Golden Color" Tourism Week 2024

Ninh Binh Tourism Week 2024, themed "The Golden Color of Tam Coc - Trang An," will be held from June 1 to June 8, 2024, showcasing the cultural diversity of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. The event marks the 10th anniversary of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. It will offer visitors exciting experiences such as boating on the Ngo Dong River and visiting Bo Bat Pottery Village and Van Lam Embroidery.

More than 800 Vietnamese officers and soldiers sent to UN peacekeeping missions

Over the past 10 years, more than 800 officers and enlisted personnel from the Vietnam People's Army and Vietnam People's Public Security have participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions. Five detachments of the Level 2 Field Hospital were deployed to the UN Mission in South Sudan, two other teams of engineers were on duty with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei, and 114 officers were dispatched as individuals.

Established on May 27, 2014, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations under the Ministry of National Defense helps implement the Party and State's policy on building a world of peace, cooperation and sustainable development through sending soldiers to UN peacekeeping operations.

Free entry to attend holi festival in An Giang 

Tourists will enjoy free entry to the Ba Chua Xu (Holy Mother of the Realm) 2024 Festival, which will be held in the southern province of An Giang from May 28 to June 3. The festival includes events and activities to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its inscription on the National Intangible Heritage List.

The festival's opening ceremony is scheduled for the night of May 28, with a light show of 300 drones. From May 29 to June 3, there will be a traditional ritual and activities to promote local tourism.

Danang 2024 Green Summer Campaign hosts foreign volunteers

The 2024 Green Summer Volunteer Campaign in the central city of Danang has attracted international students from countries such as Laos, China, Thailand and Nigeria who are studying at colleges and universities in the city. More than 20,000 members and young people are expected to participate in volunteer activities in Danang this year. The campaign for teachers and students will run from June to August.

"Vietnam Today in Children's Eyes" held in Hungary

The "Vietnam Today in Children's Eyes" drawing contest organized by the Vietnamese Women's Union in Hungary attracted hundreds of entries from more than 50 schools across Hungary to further spread information about Vietnam's land, culture and people to the international community and second and third generation Vietnamese in Hungary.

The contest received 364 entries, 87,867 comments on the contest's Facebook page, and coverage in many Hungarian newspapers. The best entries were honored at an awards ceremony on May 25.

Vietnam spends US$4.2 billion a year on tobacco-related diseases

Tobacco causes a vast health and medical burden, with the total cost of treatment, disease and death amounting to VND108 trillion (US$4.2 billion) per year, it was announced at a rally in Hanoi on May 26 in response to World No Tobacco Day [May 31]. A preliminary estimate for 2022 by the Vietnam Health Economics Association highlighted that this figure is comparable to other Southeast Asian countries, but lower than China and the US.

Militia and self-defense contest launched in Kien Giang Province

The Kien Giang provincial military command kicked off a competition for 15 militia and self-defense units on May 26. A total of 450 participants will take part in the five-day competition, which will last until May 30.

The purpose of the competition is to evaluate the quality of training programs and the readiness of local forces. The best contestants will be selected for training courses to participate in the upcoming competition organized by the 9th Military Region.
