PM Chinh urges ai ties, high-tech self-reliance

At the 46th ASEAN Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam must independently develop high technology in case transfers are restricted. He called for greater AI cooperation between ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and China, placing people and businesses at the center. Vietnam aims to establish harmonized AI regulations, develop smart infrastructure, train ethical technology professionals, and seek financial and technological support from developed nations.

Vietnam, Norway boost clean energy transition cooperation

Norway reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s green energy transition and the country’s goal of generating 122,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable power by 2030, which would account for 51% of the country's total energy mix. This pledge was made at a clean energy workshop co-hosted by the Norwegian Embassy and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on May 28, which served as a forum for exchanging knowledge and shaping policies to pave the way for a sustainable energy future.

Vietnam partners with 3M for rail upgrades

The US-based 3M Corporation will support the Vietnam North-South high-speed railway project by integrating international-standard materials and safety technologies, training Vietnamese engineers, and promoting green infrastructure. 3M is supporting Vietnam’s net-zero 2050 goals by offering low-emission, high-durability solutions based on the best global practices from Japan, South Korea, and the EU.

Japan’s Rapidus commits to training Vietnam’s semiconductor workforce

Backed by major firms and the government, Japanese chipmaker Rapidus will support the development of semiconductor talent in Vietnam through the Vietnam-Japan University. This is in response to Vietnam’s strategy to drive economic restructuring through technology, innovation, and digital transformation by 2045. The commitment was announced during a meeting on May 28 between Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and Rapidus President Higashi Tetsuro.

VCCI seeks to ease rice export regulations

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has urged the removal of the mandatory requirements for exporters to own warehouses and maintain 1,250-ton rice reserves, citing financial burden and market distortion. The VCCI argues that such rules hinder small businesses and violate free trade principles. This request comes at a time when Vietnam exported 3.43 million tons of rice, worth nearly $1.77 billion, from January to April, up 8.1% and down 13.3% year-on-year.

Vietnam advances vaccine production goals

By 2030, Vietnam aims to master the production technology of 15 vaccines, at least five of which will be produced domestically. These include a pentavalent vaccine that protects against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Hib, and either polio or hepatitis B. All of the vaccines are expected to meet international standards, which will enhance Vietnam’s capacity and competitiveness in the global vaccine supply chain.

Vietnam moves to restore imperial throne

Vietnam plans to establish a national council to assess the damage to and restore the only remaining royal throne of the Nguyen Dynasty, a national treasure that was vandalized by a mentally unstable tourist at Hue’s Thai Hoa Palace. The council, which includes heritage experts, will propose restoration plans to be approved by the prime minister.

Vietnam wins six medals at APIO 2025

At the 2025 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) hosted by Uzbekistan, Vietnam secured one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, ranking fifth overall and leading Southeast Asia. This outcome underscores the country's robust preparation and the exceptional computational thinking skills of its students, showcasing their competitive prowess in computer science on regional and global scales.

Danang boosts tourism with cultural fireworks show

The 2025 Danang International Fireworks Festival will open on May 31 with performances by Vietnam and reigning champion Finland. The opening night will feature cultural showcases, high-tech AR experiences, and a grand stage inspired by local heritage. This event showcases Danang's commitment to advancing international cultural exchange and strengthening its global tourism appeal.

Ho Chi Minh City to host Police tribute gala 

The “Glory of the Vietnam People’s Police” gala will take place from June 6 to 8 in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate important milestones in the history of the police force. The event will feature digital exhibitions, displays of modern equipment, and interactive experiences from specialized police units. The gala aims to honor the force’s legacy, inspire patriotism, and foster national pride, particularly among the youth.
