National Productivity Committee to be established

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has been tasked to study the establishment of the National Productivity Committee based on international experience and Vietnamese practice and to submit a proposal to the Government in 2025, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's decision on the National Program for Improving Labor Productivity by 2030. The program includes a goal to increase the proportion of skilled workers to 30% by 2025 and 35-40% by 2030.

More than 500 scientists from 26 countries and territories will discuss breakthrough research in the pharmaceutical field at the Asia Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences Conference 2023 (AFPS 2023), themed "Collaboration for Breakthroughs in Pharmaceutical Sciences", held in Hanoi on November 8-10. This biennial pharmaceutical conference is the largest in the Asia-Pacific region, with 24 member countries of the Asian Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences participating.

Vietnam to establish technology exchange platform

The government will set up a technology exchange platform, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on November 8 at the question-and-answer session of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister mentioned building a special mechanism to allow researchers to take risks in research, improving science and technology development funds, and changing policies to develop a high-quality workforce of experts, scientists, and highly skilled workers at home and attract foreign expertise.

Ho Chi Minh City plans to set up US$5-million fund for semiconductor industry 

Ho Chi Minh City plans to set up a US$5 million fund to support human resources training in the semiconductor industry in order to realize its goal of becoming a center for the development of the semiconductor and microchip industry. Nguyen Anh Thi, General Director of Saigon Hi-Tech Park, said at a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 8. The fund will pay upfront training costs for engineers who participate in upskilling training.

Eight Norwegian seafood firms seek business opportunities in Vietnam

Eight leading Norwegian seafood companies from the Norwegian Seafood Council have been in Vietnam since November 8 to participate in the annual VietFood & Beverage Expo 2023 in Hanoi, aiming to promote cooperation opportunities with potential partners in the Vietnamese market.

Vietnam seeks more Japan's support in human resource development 

On November 8, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc met with Yoshida Kozo, Chairman of the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) in Hanoi to discuss the Human Resources Development Scholarship Program supported by the Japanese Government's Official Development Assistance (ODA). This program has contributed to the training and development of high-quality human resources for Vietnam's public sector over the past 23 years, providing scholarships to 806 master's degree candidates and 21 Ph.D. fellows to study at universities in Japan.

Quang Tri calls for US$574 million investment to develop night economy

Quang Tri Province is calling on businesses to invest VND14.7 trillion (US$574 million) from now until 2030 to attract two million visitors through the night economy and long-term stays, according to the provincial night economy development plan for 2023-2025 with a vision until 2030.

The province plans to develop 4 or 5 pedestrian streets, night markets, culinary shopping streets, entertainment services, cultural and artistic performances, and develop at least two cultural products typical of the nighttime.
