Vietnam opens DNA analysis center for identifying martyr remains
The center is also provided with devices and equipment for automatic DNA extraction, DNA amplification and testing, the new generation of DNA sequencing system among others.
Vietnam has inaugurated the Center for DNA Analysis under the Institute of Biotechnology, which was established with global modern and scientific standards and equipped with the most advanced technologies able to provide DNA profiling of some 4,000 remains yearly, Nhan Dan news reported.
Besides, the center is also responsible for researching, applying and promoting new methods in DNA analysis for other scientific and socio-economical purposes.
The establishment of the center is aimed at realizing the scheme on identifying the unknown martyr remains approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in 2013.
The 750-square-meter center, located in North Tu Liem district in Hanoi, comprises of ten rooms designed to conduct analyses of martyr remains and their family members' DNA, labs for research and development, areas for sample archives, areas for examination as well as server and office systems.
The center is also equipped with devices and equipment for automatic DNA extraction, DNA amplification and testing, the new generation of DNA sequencing system among others.
In preparation of the center’s operation, six staff members of the center were sent to be trained at the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and labs in Hamburg, Germany.
The Institute of Biotechnology is the first unit in Vietnam to conduct DNA analysis technology for identifying remains of martyrs and handed over its technologies to other identification units.
